Certification, or licensure, is Minnesota’s gatekeeping process for community sensitive careers. Currently in Minnesota, school librarians are the only type of librarian required to hold certification. However, most all other types of librarian still have gatekeeping requirements in the form of a required masters degree in Library and Information Science to be considered for entry-level positions.
