Librarian certification, or licensure, is Wyoming’s process of gatekeeping the librarian profession. Currently, only the school librarian is required to hold certification prior to employment. The reason being school librarians are in regular contact with school-aged children, are in a position of power, and are in charge of the all-important task of educating future generations. However, all other types of librarian are still held to a high standard of knowledge through an educational requirement of a masters degree in Library and Information Science prior to qualifying for entry-level employment.
