Library Staff Licensing Pathways
Certification, or licensure, is the process of gatekeeping a career in order to make sure applicants have a standardized level of knowledge and are not going to pose a threat to the public. The state of Texas only requires school librarians to hold certification prior to employment. However, all other types of librarian are guarded by an educational requirement in the form of a masters degree in Library and Information Science for entry-level positions.
