Library Staff Licensing Pathways
Librarian certification, or licensure, is Pennsylvania’s process of gatekeeping the librarian career through various professional and personal requirements. In the state of Pennsylvania, school librarians and public librarians are the two types of librarians who are required to possess a formal certification prior to employment. However, all other types of librarian will typically implement a form of career gatekeeping through an educational requirement of a masters degree in Library and Information Science for entry-level positions.
