Library Staff Licensing Pathways
Certification, or licensure, is Oregon’s method for gatekeeping community sensitive occupations. For librarians, the school librarian specialty is the only librarian specialty requiring certification. This is mainly due to the very sensitive position they hold of being in the vicinity and in charge of school-aged children. However, most all other types of librarian career still provide a process of qualifying through the educational requirement of a masters degree in Library and Information Science.
