Certification, or licensure, is the gatekeeping process state governments implement in order to maintain a certain standard of performance within certain professional positions. In Idaho, the school librarian position is the only librarian specialty that currently requires certification. However, most all other librarian specialties require a masters degree in Library and Information Sciences as an entry-level position prerequisite.
